Lee County, FL— The Florida Department of Health in Lee County will offer free rapid testing for HIV monthly beginning Monday, July 13, 2015 at its North Fort Myers office, 83 Pondella Road. The Community AIDS Network mobile testing unit will alternate between that office and DOH-Lee’s main office at 3920 Michigan Avenue, Fort Myers, to offer the 15-minute test results in Lee County every second Monday of the next six months.

“By bringing the rapid test to areas where higher risk people live, we hope to prevent the spread of these devastating diseases,” said Neryda Greene, health educator consultant for DOH-Lee. The mobile unit provides confidential HIV and STD testing, results and counseling.

The rapid testing mobile unit will be located in the health offices’ front parking lots for the convenience of residents in the surrounding communities from 12 to 4 p.m. The mobile units also test for hepatitis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis.

Dates for the mobile testing unit in North Fort Myers are July 13, September 14 and November 9. Dates for the mobile testing unit in Fort Myers are August 10, October 12 and December 14. No appointments are necessary, and the public is welcome.
